Spiders Fall to Drexel, 2-1 Sunday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – It was another battle that came down to the wire Sunday at Crenshaw Field. Despite 16 shots, the Spiders dropped a 2-1 contest to Drexel.

Drexel got on the board first when Tess Bernheimer found the back of the cage to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams battled back-and-forth, firing off shots while the Spiders looked to break through.Â

Nine minutes into the second half freshman Florentine Beelaerts van Blokland notched her second goal of the season, tying the game up at 1-1. The Dragons were able to regain their lead when Bernheimer recorded her second of the game.

Beelearts van Blokland and seniors Kasey Gilbride and Megan Miller all fired off shots in a span of two minutes looking to tie the match back up, but the shots sailed just wide of the cage.

The Spiders return to action next Friday, September 1 to host #24 Maine. Gametime is set for 3:00 p.m.
