Day Two of the Patriot Invite Wraps up in Fairfax

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spider swimming and diving team was back in action at the Patriot Invite Friday afternoon in Fairfax, Virginia. Richmond finished the second day in sixth place of the nine-team meet, hosted by George Mason University. The Spiders have 247 total points after the first two days of competition.
Three Spiders earned points in the one-meter diving competition, led by junior Maddy Chao (Niskayuna, N.Y.). Chao earned a preliminary score of 237.30 and tallied a 251.50 score in the finals, good for the second-place finish. Sydney Weiskopf (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added a fourth-place finish. She earned a score of 241.10 in the preliminary round before earning a 239.20 score in the finals. Sophomore Alex Beran (Basking Ridge, N.J.) earned a seventh-place finish in the finals. Beran tallied a score of 217.20 in the prelims before earning a 228.65 score in the finals. Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) added a ninth-place finish, earning a score of 207.00 in the preliminary round.
In the pool, the 200-medley relay team of Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.), Morgan Soulia (Wexford, Pa.), Lauren Wallace (Charlotte, N.C.) and Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) earned an eighth-place finish with a time of 1:47.45. The 400-yard Individual medley saw Nicole Piercy (Newport News, Va.) earn a 12th-place finish with a time of 4:32.87. That time marks her best of the season, improving her season PR by five seconds. Soulia competed in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly, earning a 16th-place finish with a time of 58.63. Manning competed in the C-Final of the 100-yard butterfly, finishing second in the heat with a time of 57.90.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Soulia earned a sixth-place finish in the A-Final with a time of 1:53.86. Wallace was right on her heels with a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:53.86. Gouger recorded a time of 1:56.17 in her 200-yard freestyle race in the B-Final. Gouger added a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.42. Ellie Ronan (Marblehead, Mass.) added a top finish in the C-Final of the 100-yard backstroke, earning a time of 58.13. Manning was third in the C-Final, with a time of 58.70. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of Piercy, Lexie Gilbert (Annapolis, Md.), Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Wallace combined for a fourth-place finish, earning a time of 7:40.94.
The Spiders wrap up the final day of the Patriot Invite tomorrow morning with the preliminary round of the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 1650 freestyle. The finals for these same events, as well as the 400 freestyle relay will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
