Richmond Looks To Keep Momentum at Florida Atlantic

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team heads to Boca Raton, Fla. for a non-conference matchup against Florida Atlantic Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team made some clutch plays down the stretch coming away with a 57-55 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 14 at the Robins Center. Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, a new career-high. Graduate transfer Daijia Ruffin led the team with 17 points off the bench, including two clutch free throws to seal the victory with 16 seconds left. Sophomore Alex Parson added 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Only five Spiders scored in the game with freshman Emma Squires (7 points) and junior Amy Duggan (6 points) scored along with Hinds-Clarke, Ruffin and Parson. Richmond overcame a tough shooting night after finishing 27.5 percent off 19-of-69 from the field. The Spiders did outrebound UMES, 47-42.
Richmond had a big third quarter outscoring the Hawks, 18-7, including a 16-0 run to help earn their first win of the season.
LAST TIME VS. FLORIDA ATLANTIC
The last time these two teams met Richmond claimed the 2016 FAU Thanksgiving Tournament with a 77-67 win against host Florida Atlantic on Nov. 26, 2016. Former Spider Janelle Hubbard was named Tournament MVP after scoring 30 points against FAU. Lauren Tolson was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 17 against the Owls. Richmond used a strong fourth quarter to pull away outscoring FAU 26-16. The Spiders improved to 2-0 all-time against FAU with the win.
HINDS-CLARKE GRABS CAREER-HIGH 15 REBOUNDS
Junior forward Jaide Hinds-Clarke had a monster game against Maryland Eastern Shore pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds and came up with a career-high four steals. Hinds-Clarke also played a career-high 33 minutes and had 10 offensive rebounds in the win. Hinds-Clarke kept Richmond in the game after a clutch offensive rebound in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter almost tying the game at 55-55 with 19 seconds left.
RUFFIN PROVIDES HUGE LIFT OFF THE BENCH
Graduate student Daijia Ruffin led the team with 17 points off the bench against Maryland Eastern Shore. Ruffin was known as a scorer during her freshman season at UT Martin but only scored six points in three games as a Spider before her breakout performance against UMES. Ruffin was 4-for-5 from the field and hit 9-for-13 from the foul line to lift Richmond to a two-point win. Ruffin is fourth on the team in scoring at 5.8 points per game.
