Spiders Drop Home Game Against Fairfield

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team lost the third quarter 25-8, proving to be the difference in a 58-40 loss against Fairfield Friday afternoon at Robins Center. Sophomore point guard Alex Parson (North Chesterfield, Va.) scored a team-high 15 points and six rebounds.
Richmond finished the game shooting 28.9 percent (13-for-45) from the field and only hit 6-of-17 three-pointers in the loss. Fairfield went 23-for-50 from the field and hit five three-pointers in the win. The Spiders were outrebounded 38-27.
Parson scored a season-high 15 points and hit three three-pointers. Freshman Emma Squires (Kingston, Mass.) finished with eight points and three rebounds. Junior Jayana Ervin (Tacoma, Wash.) added five points and two steals. Freshman Molly Mraz (Erie, Pa.) made her first collegiate start.
In the first quarter, Fairfield took a 5-2 lead but Richmond cut the lead to one with two free throws by Parson. The Stags increased their lead to 17-11 after a three-pointer by Casey Foley. Kendra Landy made two free throws for Fairfield to give them a 19-11 lead after one quarter.
The Spiders responded in the second quarter by outscoring Fairfield 14-11. Richmond started to make a run with three minutes left in the quarter off an 8-0 run by Parson. Fairfield's lead fell to only five points at halftime, 30-25.
Fairfield opened the third quarter with 14-straight points to pull ahead 44-25. The Stags would outscore the Spiders, 25-8 as Khadidiatou Diouf scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the third quarter.
Richmond ended the game by outscoring Fairfield 7-3 in the final frame. The Spiders limited the Stags to 0-for-8 from the field. Junior Amy Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) had five points in the fourth quarter, including a three-pointer to end the game.
Richmond will travel on the road for the first time this season to take on Wake Forest on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m.
