Spiders Wrap Up Competition at VMI Winter Relays

Day 1 Recap
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Spider Track & Field team wrapped up its final competition before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship at the VMI Winter Relays on Saturday. The two-day meet was highlighted by freshman Brooke Fazio breaking the facility and program record in the 500m on Friday night.Â
The Spiders took three of the top-five spots in the mile with junior Ave Grosenheider posting the second fastest time of the day with a career-best 4:56.76. Sophomore Peyton McGovern (5:01.54) and junior Colleen Carney (5:03.66) finished third and fourth, respectively. Sophomore Claire Brown registered a top-ten performance as she turned in a time of 5:09.38 in the event.
Junior Marshea Robinson logged a top-five finish in the 400m, turning in a time of 59.11. Sophomore Nai'lah Rowe crossed the line at 1:00.34 to finish 14th overall. In the 200m, sophomore Morgan Towe was the first Spider to check in at 26.17 while freshman Zenia Vrakas came in at 29.92.
Freshman Julia Willcox represented the Spiders in the 800m finishing in 11th clocking a time of 2:24.29.
Also competing at the VMI Winter Relays was Will Alpaugh and Seamus Otto in the 800m. Alpaugh finished 14th overall in a time of 1:58.81 while Otto finished 32nd overall at 2:05.81.
The Spiders will head to the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship which is slated for February 17-18 at the University of Rhode Island's Mackal Fieldhouse.Â
