Spiders Have a One-Point Lead Heading into the Final Day of the A-10 Championship

GENEVA, Ohio – The Spider Swim & Dive team collected five medals on the third day of competition and moved into the lead by one point over Duquesne.

Richmond claimed the gold and bronze in the 100 back stroke with Hannah Gouger (53.35) and Jordan Kohut (54.36) finding themselves on the podium after logging NCAA B-cut times. Freshman Ellie Ronan won the consol heat touching the wall at 55.89.

Sophomore Virginia Marsh (1:49.11) and senior Annie Lane (1:48.15) finished second and third respectively in the 200 free. In the prelims Marsh broke the school record in the event at 1:47.76.

The 400 medley relay team of Gouger, senior Erin Barry, junior Morgan Soulia and Marsh picked up the silver medal in a time of 3:42.07, just behind St. Bonaventure who touched at 3:41.18.

Sophomore Lexie Gilbert was the first Spider to touch the wall in the 400 IM. The sophomore hit an NCAA B-cut time and lifetime best at 4:18.86 to finish fourth overall. Nicole Piercy was seventh at 4:23.85.

Junior Lauren Wallace also turned in a lifetime best in the 100 fly, clocking a 55.93 to finish 10th overall.

Barry was the top Spider finisher in the 100 breast stroke at 1:02.50, followed by Lane (1:02.64) and Soulia (1:03.98).

Prelim Highlights
The A-10 Championship concludes tomorrow with prelims getting underway at 10:00 a.m., finals slated for 6:30 p.m. and 3-meter diving sandwiched in between at 1:00 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to follow the team on social media (@SpiderSwimDive).

Prelim Highlights
- Sophomore Lexie Gilbert got things started with a spark in the morning session as turned in the fastest time at 4:20.60. She and junior Nicole Piercy (4:24.01) turned in times that fell in the top-eight, advancing them to the finals. Senior Erin Barry (4:28.26) finished 14th overall to move on to the consols.
- Sophomore Virginia Marsh broke the school record in the 200 free as she clocked the fastest time in the 200 free at 1:47.76, which his also an NCAA B-cut time. Marsh along with senior Annie Lane (1:50.18) advanced to the finals.
- Junior Lauren Wallace earned herself a spot in the 100 fly consol finals as she turned in the 14th fastest time (59.14) in the morning session.
- The Spiders advanced three to the 100 breast finals with Erin Barry (1:02.36), Lane (1:03.59) and Morgan Soulia (1:03.81).
- Sophomore Hannah Gouger clocked a B-cut time in the 100 back at 53.48 as well as the fastest time in prelims. Gouger along with senior Hannah Verrette (55.85) and freshman Jordan Kohut (55.98) advanced to the finals. Freshman Ellie Ronan (56.32) finished 10th overall and will compete in the consol finals. Senior Lauren McRae clocked a 58.96 and junior Brynn Robertson turned in a time of 59.53 in the event. Â
