DMR Wins A-10 Title, Spiders in Fifth After First Day of A-10 Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. – Day One of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships is in the books, and the Spiders already have a conference title to their name.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Peyton McGovern, Maria Acosta, Brooke Fazio and Amanda Corbosiero passed George Mason in the final leg of the race and finished in 11:36.63 to reach the top of the podium and move Richmond into fifth place entering the second and final day of competition.

Just before the DMR, in the other final event of the day, Colleen Carney, Eryn Mills and Ave Grosenheider finished 4, 5, 6 in the 5,000m final. The trio all posted personal-best times, with Carney finishing in 16:53.91, Mills in 17:04.35 and Grosenheider in 17:07.78. Jordan Angers also competed in the event, finishing 21st.

Haley Berkeley started the day strong for the Spiders, mounting a comeback and placing eighth in the pentathlon to score Richmond's first point of the meet. The sophomore fell behind after the high jump and shot put, but rallied back to place seventh and fifth in the long jump and 800m, respectively, to total 3184 points.

Fazio and Marshea Robinson highlighted the middle-distance events for the Spiders, qualifying for Sunday's 500m final. Fazio continued her dominance, posting the top time of 1:13.67, while Robinson finished in a personal-best time of 1:16.79 to place sixth.

A pair of Spiders also qualified for Sunday's 1000m final, as Claire Brown used a personal best time of 2:56.52 and 2017 A-10 1000m Indoor Champion Haley Preschutti crossed at 2:58.58.

The Spiders were impressive in the 800m prelims, with Acosta crossing at 2:13.62 and qualifying for Sunday's final after a second-place finish. Caroline Robelen finished 11th with a personal best time of 2:19.32, and Julia Willcox finished 15th.

Nai'lah Rowe was the lone Spider to compete in the 400m prelims, finishing in 1:01.96 for 18th place.

Morgan Towe and Rowe both competed in the day's fastest event, the 60m dash prelim, and finished in 20th and 22nd, respectively. Towe posted a season-best 8.09, while Rowe finished in 8.22. Towe then competed in the 200m prelims, crossing at 26.34 for 24th place.

Berkeley and Liz Montague competed in the long jump, the lone field event of the day for the Spiders, finishing in 15th and 24th place, respectively.
