CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Spider Baseball team kept the momentum going on Sunday as they went on to defeat The Citadel, 13-3, in the final game of the Charleston Crab House Classic.
In the last two games, Richmond (2-1) has outscored its opponents 29-5.
"I'm really proud of the way our guys played this weekend," said head coach Tracy Woodson. "I have really liked what I've seen from both our hitters and our pitchers. We have to keep working each day to get better and maintain the confidence we played with this weekend."
The Citadel got on the board first but Tim Miller answered with an RBI single to even the score at 1-1. The Bulldogs retook the lead in the third with a solo shot from Andrew Judkins, but once again their lead was short-lived. Anthony Forte pushed across the tying run in the fourth, right before D.J. Lee hit a three-run homer to put the Spiders ahead, 5-2.
In the fifth, the Bulldogs tacked on a run, but that would be the end of their scoring for the game.
Kyle Adams hit his first homer of the season in the fifth to make it a four-run game. Behind five runs in the seventh, the Spiders took an 11-3 lead, one The Citadel wouldn't overcome. Richmond tacked on two more runs in the eighth thanks to an RBI double from Daniel Brumbaugh and an Adams' sac fly.
The Spiders return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 20) as they travel to face in-state foe, Old Dominion. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
