Spiders Drop Midweek Tilt With JMU Wednesday

JMU took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning off a double and a defensive miscue to go ahead. Back-to-back hits from Tim Miller and Sage Bruhl put runners in scoring position in the second. An RBI groundout from Justin Cook pushed across the Spiders first run of the game, cutting the Dukes' lead to two, 3-1.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, the Spiders pushed across three runs to take a 6-3 lead. Behind singles from Daniel Brumbaugh and Kyle Adams, Vinny Capra crossed the plate after drawing a walk. Miller capped off the inning with a two-run double.
The Dukes cut the deficit to one behind a two-run homer from Zach Tondi in the fifth, and in the seventh, JMU evened the score, 6-6 on a solo shot from Adam Sisk. JMU added three in the eighth and one in the ninth to go ahead, 10-6.
Richmond looked for a late rally in the home half of the ninth, but were unable to overtake the Dukes' lead.
The Spiders continue their homestand with a three-game series with Binghamton this weekend. Action begins on Friday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m.
