Spiders Drop Saturday Contest to Davidson

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – It was another conference showdown at Pitt Field on Saturday afternoon Richmond and Davidson remained locked in a scoreless game through six innings. Both team threatened on numerous occasions to get on the board, but they left a combined 12 runners stranded.
Aaron Winkler threw a gem in his career day on the hill. The right hander struck out 10 Wildcats in his six innings of work. Winkler scattered six hits and only walked one.
Davidson broke through the zeros on the scoreboard with three runs in the seventh. Richmond fought to chip away at the lead, but the 'Cats put a halt to any opportunity.
Prior to the conference battle on the diamond, the Spiders and Davidson partnered to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. Both teams wore gold laces throughout the game and participated in a special pre-game ceremony with six ceremonial first pitches. The Spiders were honored to be joined by a cancer survivor and five siblings of pediatric cancer patients.
The two teams will square off in the series finale tomorrow at 12 p.m.
