Rally Falls Short, Spiders Drop Saturday Contest to Flyers

Dayton grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a two-run homer from Brandon Smith. The Spiders answered with a pair of run on an RBI single from Kyle Schmidt, evening the score at 2-2.
Behind a three-run homer and a solo shot in the second, Dayton took a 6-2 advantage. They tacked on a run in the third on a sac fly to go up 7-2.
Antony Forte launched his first home run in a Spider uniform in the home half of the fourth to begin chipping away at the deficit. Thanks to a Vinny Capra two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, Richmond continued to scratch away at Dayton's lead, 7-5.
The Spiders continued to chip away at the Flyers' lead and a solo homer from Justin Cook got them within one, 7-6, in the bottom of the seventh, but that would be as close as they'd get, as Dayton secured the win.
D.J. Lee made his way into the Spider record book as he is now tied for 10th all-time in stolen bases with 45.
The rubber match is set to for tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
