Spiders Shut Out Dayton Sunday for Series Win

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spiders picked up their third Atlantic 10 series win on Sunday after defeating Dayton, 4-0.
A double from Jordan Schulefand broke up the zeros on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Schulefand drove in Daniel Brumbaugh from first to give Richmond (22-19, 8-7) a 1-0 lead. The Spiders extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to a Vinny Capra single and a Flyers' balk.
In the sixth, Richmond tacked on a run after a Flyer miscue to go ahead 4-0. Robbie Baker went seven innings on the hill matching a career-high nine strikeouts. The right-hander allowed just three hits during his outing and only walked one.
Dayton (13-27, 5-10) looked to avoid the shutout in the ninth, but Layne Looney held them at bay and secured the Spiders' second shutout of the season.
The Spiders will return to action on Friday, May, 4 as they square off with crosstown rival, VCU, at The Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
