UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Jake Wojcik of Northern California's Bellarmine College Prep has signed with the University of Richmond and will join the Spiders basketball program for the upcoming season. Wojcik, a 6'4" guard, originally committed to Siena in November but was granted a release when the school changed coaches this offseason.Â
Wojcik averaged 17 points per game at Bellarmine last season while leading the Bells to a second straight West Coast Athletic League championship. Wojcik was named the conference's player of the year for a second straight season. He recently was an honorable mention selection to California's All-State team while also earning first team honors on the San Francisco Chronicle's All-Metro Team and the Bay Area News Group's All-Area Team. A three-star recruit, Wojcik was also recruited by South Florida, Holy Cross, and Drexel since receiving his release from Siena last month.Â
Wojcik's father, Dave, was the head coach at San Jose State for four seasons from 2013-17 and played collegiately at Loyola (MD) before embarking on his coaching career.Â
Wojcik is the third player to sign with the Spiders in the last three weeks. Wagner transfer Blake Francis committed to the program in mid-April and Finland's Andre Gustavson signed on April 26. Gustavson and Wojcik will join Souleymane Koureissi, a 6'9" forward from New York's Iona Prep School, in the Spiders freshman class this season. Francis will be required to sit out the 2018-19 season, per NCAA regulations.Â
