Robbie Baker Signs With Boston Red Sox

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond senior right-handed pitcher Robbie Baker (Atlanta, Ga.) has signed a professional contract with the Boston Red Sox organization. Baker has been assigned to the rookie league Gulf Coast Red Sox, based out of Fort Meyers, Fla.
Baker earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors this season and was named Second Team All-Region by the ABCA/Rawlings. He started 15 games for the Spiders on the weekend, leading the team in wins (9), innings pitched (84.2) and strikeouts (78).
Baker finished the season with a 9-2 overall record and tossed three complete games on the year. He went the distance against George Washington, VCU and La Salle with the game against the Rams coming by shutout. He set a career-high with 10 strikeouts against La Salle and finished the A-10 season with a 8-0 record during the regular season.
Baker is joined by classmate Vinny Capra (Melbourne, Fla.) in the minor leagues from the 2018 team. Capra was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays' organization and is currently playing with the Vancouver Canadiens in the Class A Short Season Northwest League.
