Richmond Falls In Overtime At St. Bonaventure, 2-1
10/13/2019 | Women's Soccer
OLEAN, NY. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team gave up the tying goal with nine minutes left and the game-winner in overtime to fall on the road at St. Bonaventure, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
"Unfortunately, we were unable to match or exceed our opponent's intensity level," head coach Marty Beall said. "In this top-level conference, you get punished by teams when you don't compete with intensity no matter how good you are. That's exactly what St. Bonaventure did to us today from the first whistle to the final play."
Richmond (5-7-2, 2-4 A-10) went into overtime looking for the game-winner but St. Bonaventure scored 30 seconds into the period as Bella Marra scored her first goal of the season.
Redshirt freshman Claire Hinkle (Tipp City, Ohio) made six saves in the loss. Redshirt junior Alyssa Walker (Centerville, Ohio) gave the Spiders a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute after finding a loose ball off a corner kick and tapping in a rebound for her seventh goal of the season. Senior Brooke Beam (Dagsboro, Del.) and junior TJ Anderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga.) were credited with assists.
In the 81st minute, the Bonnies found the equalizer after Isabelle LaBarbera scored off a shot into the right corner of the net.
Junior Katie Tritt (Fredericksburg, Va.) made a run late in the second half getting inside the box but couldn't get a shot across and led to a shot wide of net by redshirt junior Maya Wright (Nashville, Tenn.).
The Spiders were held to just one corner kick in the second half after four in the first half.
Richmond will return home for a cross-town battle against VCU on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. at President's Field at River Road.
