Purcell Earns Another All-Time Top Ten Honor on Day Two of the Patriot Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. – Sophomore Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) earned another spot in the Spider swimming all-time top ten after turning in the Patriot Invitational's best time in the 400-individual medley. Purcell earned her first-place finish with a 4:20.22 time, earning a sixth-place spot on the all-time list. As a team, the Spiders are currently sitting in sixth in the nine-team invitational with 271 points. Drexel currently leads the invite with 592 points.
The 200-medley relay team of Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.), Purcell, Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.), and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) turned in a sixth-place finish with a season-best time of 1:44.92. The quartet of Jordan Kohut (Raleigh, N.C.), Kristin Mihm (Wexford, Pa.), Rachel Pak (Fairfax, Va.) and Mallory Shake (Lexington, Ky.) added a pair of points in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:49.13.
The 800 freestyle relay team of Manning, O'Shaughnessy, Ellie Ronan (Marblehead, Mass.) and Purcell finished in fifth-place with a 7:39.04 time. Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.), Pak, Jenna Miller (Annapolis, Md.) and Lexie Gilbert (Annapolis, Md.) finished in 14th with a time of 8:00.78.
Along with Purcell, Ronan earned a career-best time in the 400 IM, finishing in third place with a time of 4:25.31. Gilbert added a 16th place finish with a time of 4:33.96.
Following her historical performance last night, Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) added a 12th place finish with a time of 1:54.37 time in the 200-freestyle. Medlin added a 20th finish in the same event with a time of 1:55.81.
Purcell added a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:04.41. Gouger added a season-best time in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in second place with a 54.24 time. Kohut finished tied for 18th after finishing the 100-backstroke event with a time of 58.07.
For the divers, senior Sydney Weiskopf (Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned a ninth-place finish with a score of 213.90 in the 1—meter event. Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.), Ava Tuggle (Archdale, N.C.) and Maddy Chau (Niskayuna, N.Y.) each tallied points, scoring 212.40, 207.80 and 200.50, respectively.
Richmond returns to the pool tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the preliminary rounds of the final day of the Patriot Invitational.
