Spiders Continue Road Trip At Charlotte

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will head out on the road to face Charlotte on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. inside Halton Arena. Both teams started their 2019-20 seasons with victories.
BC TRANSFER KATE KLIMKIEWICZ MAKES STORYBOOK DEBUT
Sophomore Kate Klimkiewicz, a native of Oakton, Virginia, found out minutes before Richmond left for UNCG that she was deemed eligible by the NCAA after playing one season at ACC Boston College. Klimkiewicz made it count coming off the bench and scoring 13 points, including 2-for-4 from the three-point line to help the Spiders defeat UNCG, 70-62. Klimkiewicz, playing in her first game as a Spider, scored a career-high 13 points and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Klimkiewicz played 23 minutes and shot 50 percent (4-for-8) in her debut.
FRESHMAN ELAINA CHAPMAN MAKES IMPACT EARLY
Freshman Elaina Chapman (Richmond, Virginia) came off the bench and scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds in a 70-62 road win at UNCG on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Chapman was 4-for-6 from the field and made her only free throw of the game. She also impacted the game defensively with two blocks and three defensive rebounds.
AARON ROUSSELL ERA OPENS 1-0
Roussell earned his first win as a Spider with a 70-62 road win at UNCG on Nov. 5, 2019. Roussell became the 11th coach in school history to win their coaching debut with the Spiders. Roussell earned his 313th career win as a coach. Other Richmond coaches who won their debuts include Franny Crenshaw (1919), Michael Shafer (2005), Bob Foley (1996), Bill Hotchkiss (1980) and Joanne Boyle (2002) to name a few.
SPIDERS TAKE CARE OF THE BALL & ACTIVE DEFENSIVELY
Richmond won the turnover battle in its season opener on the road at UNCG, only committing 12 turnovers and forced 24 from their opponents. The Spiders were active in the passing lanes creating 13 steals, including five from senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke. Fellow senior Jayana Ervin came away with three steals in 18 minutes.
LAST MEETING VS. CHARLOTTE
This will be the 12th meeting between the two teams with Charlotte holding a 10-1 record when the 49ers were part of the Atlantic 10 conference from 2006-2013. In the previous meeting, Charlotte earned a 64-55 win at the Robins Center on March 3, 2013. The 49ers have won nine-straight games in the all-time series. Spider Hall of Famer Becca Wann scored 14 points off the bench in the 64-55 loss. Former Spider Rachael Bilney added 13 points and eight rebounds on her Senior Day.
