Richmond Returns To Play In Anne Donovan Classic

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team had an 11-day break due to final exams and returns to action at the inaugural Anne Donovan Classic hosted by Old Dominion Dec. 19-21 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
RICHMOND CONTINUES TO SHARE THE BASKETBALL
The Spiders have improved their ball movement from a season ago after finishing the season 319th in total assists with 312 assists in 2018-19. Fast forward to this season and Richmond already has 140 assists which is fourth in the Atlantic 10 and 54th nationally. Three Spiders have dished out 20 or more assists in Alex Parson (26), Kate Klimkiewicz (23) and Emma Squires (20).
SPIDERS NO. 48 IN NCAA RPI
Richmond came in at No. 48 in the RPI after 10 games (6-4) into the 2019-20 season. The Spiders are the second highest A-10 team behind just Saint Louis (No. 37). All four of Richmond's losses have come against top-100 RPI teams - Charlotte (No. 40), Drexel (No. 62), Bradley (No. 41), Furman (No. 98).
ABOUT OLD DOMINION
Old Dominion is 7-2 on the season and is No. 53 in the RPI. The Monarchs are 4-1 in their last five games with wins at Cal Poly (W, 61-55), against Idaho (W, 67-55), at William & Mary (W, 69-58) and vs. Maryland Eastern Shore (W, 48-39). ODU has three players averaging double-figures with Victoria Morris leading the way at 11.2 points per game and has hit a team-best 27 three-pointers. ODU lost 62-49 at VCU on Dec. 15.
ABOUT MOUNT ST. MARY'S
Mount St. Mary's is 4-5 on the season with wins against Frostburg Sate (W, 94-40), UMBC (W, 71-61), at Radford (W, 75-58) and Loyola (W, 81-75). Two of their losses have come against Power teams in Kentucky (L, 67-44) and Indiana (L, 75-52). In their most recent game, Mount St. Mary's lost to Maryland Eastern Shore, 78-76. Kendall Bresee leads the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game. She scored a season-high 25 points against Loyola.
ABOUT HAMPTON
Hampton is 2-4 on the season after dropping four-straight games against Florida Atlantic (L, 64-63), at Furman (L, 70-65), Norfolk State (L, 77-56) and Liberty (L, 83-59. The Lady Pirates opened the season 2-0 with wins against Alabama (W, 64-61) and Chattanooga (W, 84-55). Lauren VanArsdale is averaging 16.7 points per game and has hit 10 three-pointers. She scored 25 points against Chattanooga and 21 versus Furman.
INAUGURAL ANNE DONOVAN CLASSIC
Anne Donovan is an ODU legend who passed away in June 2018. Donovan played at Old Dominion University from 1979 to 1983, helping to lead the Lady Monarchs to a national championship in 1980 and two more "Final Four" appearances during her four years. She holds multiple records, including becoming the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in ODU history with 2,719 points and 1,976 rebounds.
