Spiders Finish Decade With Home Contest Against Norfolk State

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will finish the non-conference season and 2019 with a home game against Norfolk State on Monday, Dec. 30, at 6:30 p.m. inside the Robins Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Spiders went 0-3 at the Anne Donovan Classic hosted by Old Dominion and have lost a season-high four games. Richmond lost the final game of the tournament against Hampton 69-65. Richmond outscored Hampton, 23-21, in the fourth quarter but fell short.
Sophomore guard Claire Holt scored a career-high 20 points with four assists and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Kate Klimkiewicz added 12 points and hit three three-pointers. Richmond shot 38.3 percent from the field (23-of-60) and hit just 9-for-28 from the three-point line. The Spiders finished with 20 turnovers.
Richmond cut Hampton's lead to one point at 52-51 in the fourth quarter but a couple of layups from the Pirates pushed the lead back to 56-51. The Spiders got within three points at 68-65 with 14 seconds left but Hampton hit a free throw to make the final 69-65.
ABOUT NORFOLK STATE
The Norfolk State Spartans are 6-6 on the season but have lost three-straight games to West Virginia (L, 72-55), Robert Morris (L, 69-62 OT) and William & Mary (L, 65-56). Norfolk State is 2-2 on the road this season. The Spartans have one of the most dynamic players in Chanette Hicks, a transfer from Virginia Tech, who is leading the team in scoring at 21.3 points per game (9th in the nation). She has posted a triple double this season and has 58 steals (2nd in the nation), 64 assists (18th in the nation). Norfolk State took down Hampton 77-56 on Dec. 7 thanks to 22 points from Hicks.
HOLT NAMED TO ANNE DONOVAN CLASSIC ALL-TOURNEY TEAM
Sophomore Claire Holt was named to the Anne Donovan Classic All-Tournament team thanks to averaging 13.3 points per game (40 points) in three games. Holt scored a career-high 20 points against Hampton in the final game of the tournament. Holt also dished out 10 assists in three games and hit five three-pointers during the tournament. Holt has started the last five games for the Spiders.
RICHMOND CONTINUES TO SHARE THE BASKETBALL
The Spiders have improved their ball movement from a season ago after finishing the season 319th in total assists with 312 assists in 2018-19. Fast forward to this season and Richmond already has 184 assists which is second in the Atlantic 10 and 51st nationally. Five Spiders have dished out 20 or more assists in Alex Parson (35), Kate Klimkiewicz (27), Claire Holt (26), Jaide Hinds-Clarke (22), and Emma Squires (20).
