Richmond Collects Fourth Road Win At Maryland Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team never trailed in earning a 64-52 road win at Maryland Eastern Shore Thursday night at Hytche Arena.
"I thought we had some really strong stretches tonight," head coach Aaron Roussell said. "Rebounding the basketball, I thought it was the best we have been this year. We moved the ball well and found some easy shots. Looking forward to getting back home and play in front of our fans on Sunday."
The Spiders improve to 6-3 overall on the season and already have four road wins. Maryland Eastern Shore falls to 2-6 on the season. Richmond outrebounded the Hawks, 41-25, including 10 offensive rebounds.
Sophomore Emma Squires (Kingston, Mass.) posted her first double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Squires also finished with a career-high six assists after shooting 4-for-9 from the field. Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke (Westwood, N.J.) scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore Claire Holt (Hoover, Alabama) added 13 points in her first start of the season. Freshman Elaina Chapman (Richmond, Va.) scored nine points off the bench.
Richmond finished with 15 assists on 24 made field goals after shooting 44.4 percent (24-for-54) from the field. The Spiders also went 9-for-12 from the free throw line.
The Spiders built a 12-point halftime lead at 29-17 on the road at Maryland Eastern Shore. Hinds-Clarke scored 10 points with six rebounds and two steals to lead the team. Chapman added seven points and two rebounds off the bench.
Richmond opened the game with a 5-0 run off a couple of free throws by Holt and a three-pointer by Squires. The Hawks scored the next five points to tie the game at 5-5. The Spiders went on another 5-0 run with a three-pointer by Holt and a layup by Hinds-Clarke. A couple of three-pointers gave Richmond a 17-11 lead after the first quarter.
A couple of early baskets from Hinds-Clarke pushed the lead to 22-15 with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter. The Spiders ended the quarter on a 7-2 run to lead 29-17 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Richmond outscored Maryland Eastern Shore, 19-14, and shot 8-for-16. The Spiders had their largest lead of the game at 48-31. The Hawks battled in the fourth quarter hitting 9-for-13 from the field and cut the lead to 10 but never got closer. The Hawks scored 21 points in the fourth quarter but the Spiders still won by 12.
Richmond will return home to the Robins Center for a matchup against Furman on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. The Spiders will play after the men's game is complete against South Alabama starting at 2 p.m.
