Spiders Return Home To Battle Furman

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team returns home to the Robins Center to face a perennial postseason team in Furman on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m.
HOME SWEET HOME
Richmond returns home to the Robins Center with a perfect 2-0 home mark this season. The Spiders put their four-game home winning streak on the line against Furman dating back to last season. In the first two home games, Richmond won two close games against FAU (W, 57-55) and William & Mary (W, 76-73). The Spiders will host Norfolk State on Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. for the final non-conference home game of the season.
ABOUT FURMAN
Furman enters with a 5-3 record on the season with wins against Georgia Southern (W, 78-63), North Greenville (W, 88-51), Hampton (W, 70-65), Gardner Webb (W, 72-67) and George State (W, 62-55). Their three losses are against Clemson (L, 77-71), Vanderbilt (L, 74-46) and Middle Tennessee (L, 78-62) all coming on the road. The Paladins won 19 games a season ago and lost in the first round of the WNIT at Virginia Tech. Le'Jzae Davidson leads the team in scoring at 13 points per game and has hit a team-best 22 three-pointers. Tierra Hodges is second on the team at 10.9 points per game.
PREVIOUS MEETING WITH THE PALADINS
Richmond earned a 54-48 road win on Dec. 21, 2016 against Furman. Former Spider Lauren Tolson led the team with 14 points and five rebounds. Jaide Hinds-Clarke and Micaela Parson each added 10 points apiece. Amy Duggan grabbed eight rebounds in the win. The Spiders used a strong four quarter to seal the road win by outscoring Furman, 18-14. Furman had a tough shooting night from the three-point line going 2-for-22 (9.1 percent).
DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR EMMA SQUIRES
Emma Squires posted her first career double-double in a road win at Maryland Eastern Shore. Squires finished with 11 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Squires helped the Spiders outrebound the Hawks, 41-25. Squires led the team with five offensive rebounds to go along with her five defensive rebounds.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond improved to 6-3 on the season with a 64-52 road win at Maryland Eastern Shore on Dec. 5. The Spiders never trailed and held a 17-point lead after three quarters. Richmond had its best rebounding performance of the season with 41 boards, including 10 offensive. The Spiders held the Hawks to just six points in the second quarter to break open the game.
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke led the team with 18 points off 8-for-14 shooting. Sophomore Emma Squires posted her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Claire Holt added 13 points off three three-pointers in her first start of the season. Freshman Elaina Chapman scored nine points off the bench.
Richmond continued to move the ball well with 15 assists off 24 made field goals. The Spiders are 3-0 all-time against Maryland Eastern Shore.
