John Walsh Named Atlantic 10 Rookie Of The Week

RICHMOND, Va. – John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) went 2-0 in singles last week and was named the Atlantic 10 men's tennis Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Walsh helped Richmond go a perfect 2-0 on the weekend with wins against Binghamton and Navy. First, Walsh teamed with George Lovitt, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles against Binghamton, then picked up a straight-set victory against Ingo Saez, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 singles. Then against Navy with the match tied at 3-3, Walsh earned a comeback win against Jack Dabek, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3, at No. 5 singles, to clinch the fifth 4-3 win of the season for the Spiders.

Walsh, a Bryn Mawr, Pa. native, has won three of his last four matches to improve his record at No. 5 singles to 3-2 on the season. Walsh holds a stellar doubles record with teammate George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) going 7-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Richmond is 8-2 on the season and will host Liberty (March 1) and Elon (March 2) at the Westhampton Tennis Courts this weekend, weather permitting.
