Spiders Face VCU In Sonabank/P.O.W.E.R. Crosstown Showdown Rematch

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team heads down the road for a rematch against VCU in round two of the Sonabank/P.O.W.E.R. Crosstown Showdown on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. inside the Siegel Center.
LAST MEETING VS. VCU
This will be the 82nd meeting between the two teams with VCU holding a slim 41-40 lead. In the previous meeting, VCU pulled away in the third quarter outscoring Richmond, 20-11, to earn a 68-43 win at the Robins Center on Jan. 12. Aniyah Carpenter scored 14 points off the bench and Hinds-Clarke added 13 points and eight rebounds. The Rams lead the A-10 with a 9-1 record and are 17-6 overall. The Spiders only hit 4-of-20 from the three-point line. Richmond is looking to split the season series after winning both games last season.
HINDS-CLARKE DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke posted her fourth-straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds at Dayton. Hinds-Clarke scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed her 10th rebound in the fourth quarter.
Hinds-Clarke now has seven double-doubles on the season. She has eight career double-doubles and is second in rebounds per game during A-10 play (9.3). Hinds-Clarke sits fourth in offensive rebounds per game during league play at 3.4.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team played the University of Dayton even in three of the four quarters but were outscored 27-6 in the second quarter in a 71-50 road loss on Feb. 6. The Spiders struggled from the three-point line going just 2-for-20 and only shot 30.9 percent from the field (17-for-55).
Richmond had trouble rebounding giving up 15 offensive rebounds and were outrebounded by the Flyers, 46-29. Dayton also received 42 bench points, including 11 points from Kyla Whitehead and 10 points from Maddy Dennis. Senior guard Lauren Cannatelli finished with 11 points.
Dayton used a strong run in the second quarter and never trailed after ending the quarter with a 14-0 run. The Spiders fell to 3-6 in the Atlantic 10 and Dayton improved to 7-2, tied for second place.
THE RACE TOWARDS THE NO. 8 SEED
The Spiders are 3-6 in the Atlantic 10 after nine conference games. Richmond has seven games remaining against league opponents but are hoping to host a first-round A-10 Tournament game at the Robins Center (top-eight seeds host). Last season, the Spiders finished 8-8 and finished in eighth place. Richmond still has games against UMass, St. Bonaventure and George Mason.
