Men’s Lacrosse Secures SoCon Tournament Berth With Senior Day Win

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team had a lot to celebrate Saturday afternoon as the Spiders clinched a berth into the Southern Conference Tournament with a 15-9 victory over Mercer and honored a 12-member senior class with senior day festivities prior to the game at Robins Stadium.
The victory improved Richmond to 5-1 in SoCon play and keeps the Spiders in a three-way tie atop the standings with Air Force and High Point heading into the final game of the regular season. Richmond closes out the regular season next Saturday on the road when it travels to High Point for a meeting against the Panthers.
The Spiders used the emotion and momentum from senior day to jump out to an impressive start, scoring the game's first six goals and out-scoring the Bears 11-1 in the first half. Senior attack Teddy Hatfield (Summit, N.J.) led the way with a game-high seven points, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. His seven-point performance moved him into the team lead on the season with 59 total points, with 31 goals and 28 assists. His three assists also gave him the Richmond single-season record for helpers, surpassing his own previous record of 26 assists set in 2017.
Sophomore attack Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) finished the game with two goals and a game-high four assists for a six-point total. Lanchbury scored his 40th and 41st goal of the season, increasing his UR single-season record and raising his total to 58 points on the year.
Senior attack Ryan Lee (South Salem, N.Y.) added a pair of goals and an assist while classmate Patrick Shea (Oakville, Ontario) scored a pair of goals. Junior midfielder Tate Gallagher (Ardmore, Pa.) tallied two goals to round out the multiple-goal scorers for the Spiders.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jack Rusbuldt (Richmond, Va.) played the opening 39:46 in goal and allowed just one goal while making six saves. Sophomore defender Jason Reynolds (Chester Springs, Pa.) highlighted the defense with five caused turnovers and four ground balls while Sean Menges (Richmond, Va.) had five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Senior Pierce Dellafera (Locust Valley, N.Y.) opened the scoring on senior day less than two minutes into the game as the Spiders opened to a 6-0 lead by the 3:52 mark of the first quarter. Lee scored two goals in the opening burst while Lanchbury notched his 40th on the year. Hatfield and Shea each added a pair of goals in the second quarter as the Spiders opened to an 11-1 lead at the break. The 11 goals are the most Richmond has scored in the first half this season.
