Six Spiders Named VaSID Academic All-State

RICHMOND, Va. – Six Spiders earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State for their efforts on the field and in the classroom this season. Miles Clikeman (North Chesterfield, Va.) of men's cross country, Michael Baker (Concord, N.C.) of men's golf, Elise Zwicklbauer (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) of field hockey, Lizzie Reedy (Marietta, Ga.) of women's golf, Jason Reynolds (Chester Springs, Pa.) of men's lacrosse and D.J. Lee (Frankfort, Ill.) from baseball each earned the all-state accolades.
In order to qualify for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore in academic standing with a minimum 3.25 grade point average.
Clikeman is a mathematics major who turned in an exceptional season on the course this year. He was an A-10 Academic All-Conference honoree as well as earning a NCAA All-Region honors. He took second at the Spider Alumni Open as well as winning the Delaware Invitational.
Baker, a business administration major, also earned Academic All A-10 honors this season. He appeared in eight events and recorded three top 20 finishes. He shot a 73.27 per round average, the 12th-lowest total in a single season in Spider history. In the first four rounds of his career, he shot under par and shot a low round of 68 (-4).
Zwicklbauer had a breakout season for the Spiders, performing both on the field and in the classroom as she earned Academic All-Conference honors. She led the team with 17 points and was second on the team in both goals and assists. The biology major was twice named a ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and earned NFHCA National Academic Squad honors.
Reedy was a Second Team All-Patriot League performer on the links. The business administration major was an Academic All-Patriot League selection and was named to the Patriot's League All-Academic team. On the course, Reedy put her name in the record books, ending the season as the Spiders all-time leader in career scoring average at 76.57.
A First Team All-Southern Conference performer on the lacrosse field, Reynolds earned Academic All-State honors. He started all 17 games for the Spiders this season on the defensive end. The business administration major led the team with 44 ground balls and recorded multiple ground balls in 12 games. He forced 22 turnovers on the season to lead the team.
Spider baseball's three-time team captain was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for his performance this season. Lee played in 39 games this season and was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week early in the year. The human resource management major hit for a .275 average with five home runs, the best total in his career. Lee also tied an NCAA record after hitting two home runs in the same inning against George Mason.
