08/30/2019 | Women's Soccer
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer scored two first half goals and held on to defeat the defending Southern Conference champs UNCG, 2-1, Friday night at River Road.
The Spiders finished with a 17-10 shot advantage being the aggressor most of the game. Junior Katie Tritt (Fredericksburg, Va.) hit the cross bar for the second-straight game in the 14th minute.
In the first half, Richmond made it 1-0 off a beautiful set piece goal from freshman Emma Kennedy (Blacksburg, Va.). In the 27th minute, senior Brooke Beam (Dagsboro, Del.) sent a ball into the box where junior TJ Anderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga.) flicked it off her head to Kennedy who slotted home her first collegiate goal.
The Spiders received a penalty kick in the 38th minute and Anderson stepped up and confidently scored to pull ahead 2-0.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Jessica Stanfill (Fitzgerald, Ga.) made a couple of key saves to keep the game 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Spiders kept attacking as redshirt junior Alyssa Walker (Centerville, Ohio) fired a shot just high in the 50th minute. Richmond outshot the Spartans 9-5 in the second half.
UNCG made a late push scoring their only goal in the 90th minute off a scramble inside the box as Nicole Supply scored off a pass from teammate Gracie Timbario. Stanfill finished with five saves in the victory.
The Spiders will head out on the road to face Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m.
