RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond football team hits the road for the first time this season Saturday afternoon as the Spiders travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a meeting against Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.

Additionally the game will be audio broadcast on ESPN Richmond, TuneIn and www.richmondspiders.com with Bob Black, Chris Anderson and Matt Smith on the call. Saturday's game marks the sixth meeting all-time between Richmond and Boston College. The Spiders are 1-4 all-time against the Eagles and the teams will be meeting for the first time since 1971 when the Spiders fell 24-0 to Boston College in Richmond. The game marks the first visit for Richmond to Chestnut Hill since 1965. The Spiders' lone victory against the Eagles came October 31, 1953 with a 14-0 win on the road.
Saturday's game marks the 161st contest for the Spiders against current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Spiders are 25-126-9 all-time against ACC schools, playing Virginia Tech (50) and Virginia (33) the most times. Richmond has recorded eight wins all-time against Virginia Tech, six against Wake Forest, four against Duke, three against Virginia and one each against Boston College and N.C. State.
Richmond's last win against an ACC opponent came September 3, 2016 with a 37-20 victory over Virginia in Charlottesville. Sixteen different current Spiders were on the team in 2016 that won against the Cavaliers with three playing in the game -- Xavier Goodall (Henrico, Va.), Devin Campbell (Yorktown, Va.) and Billy Caughell (Apopka, Fla.).
The Spiders are coming off a season-opening 38-19 victory over Jacksonville last week that saw them rush for 320 yards of offensive. The Spiders' 320 yards rushing are the most for the team since rushing for 405 yards against Bucknell September 22, 2007. In fact, the 320 yards marks just the fifth time Richmond has eclipsed 300 yards rushing in a game since 2007 (302 vs. William & Mary 2015, 305 vs. JMU 2015, 302 vs. Hofstra 2008, 300 vs. Georgetown 2008).
The Spiders had six players rush for 25 yards or more in the victory with redshirt junior quarterback Joe Mancuso (Blairsville, Ga.) leading the way with 77 yards on 11 carries. Redshirt freshman Aaron Dykes (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 68 yards on six carries while Goodall posted 63 yards on nine carries.
Freshman linebacker Tristan Wheeler (Bethlehem, Pa.) had a debut to remember in his first collegiate game of his career. Wheeler led all Spiders with 12 tackles in the victory, ranking third in the Colonial Athletic Association in week one of action. The 12 tackles are the most since Daniel Jones (Williamsburg, Va.) recorded 14 tackles last season against Elon. It is also the most tackles in a season opener since Reggie Burnette and Aaron Roane each recorded 12 tackles against Virginia in 2012.
Redshirt senior defensive lineman Maurice Jackson (Levittown, Pa.) returned a Jacksonville fumble 56-yards for a touchdown for the Spiders' second score of the season last week. It marked the second touchdown Jackson has scored in his career as he ran back a fumble in the Spiders win over St. Francis last season. It also marks the second-straight season that Richmond has scored a defensive touchdown in a season opener as former Spider Dale Matthews Jr. scored one against Virginia last season.
Saturday's game will see a familiar faces on the Boston College sideline for Richmond faithful. Jim Reid is the current defensive ends coach for the Eagles and was the Richmond Spiders' head coach for nine season from 1995-2003, recording a 48-53-1 record at the helm. Additionally, Frank Leonard is the current Assistant Head Coach for Boston College and he spent 10 years as an assistant coach with the Spiders from 1994-2003.
