Swimming and Diving Competes at James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Richmond swimming and diving returned to the pool Saturday morning at James Madison at the Savage Natatorium in Harrisonburg. The Spiders and Dukes competed in 15 events, with Richmond earning first place finishes in three events.
The first event of the day started with the 200-yard medley relay as the team of Jordan Kohut (Raleigh, N.C.), Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.), Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:48.23. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.), Kristine Mihm (Wexford, Pa.), Medlin and Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) closed the meet out with a first-place finish time of 3:38.60. The relay team of Kohut, Mallory Shake (Lexington, Ky.), Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.) and O'Shaughnessy were second in the 400-yard freestyle at 3:46.79.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.) earned a second-place finish, finding the wall in 56.81. Gouger was second in the 200-yard backstroke as well, finishing in 2:04.35.
Greene added a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.92. Medlin turned in a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 24.90. In the 100-yard freestyle, Manning finished third with a time of 54.06.
Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) tallied individual first-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:21.69, and the 400 IM at 4:25.78.
Palfreyman competed in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing third at 5:20.79 and O'Shaughnessy added a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 59.43.
Richmond's top diver in the 3-meter event was junior Alex Beran (Basking Ridge, N.J.). Beran finished fifth with a score of 251.10. Sophomore Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) earned the top finish in the 1-meter event with her season-best score of 237.90.
The Spiders are back in action next Saturday as they head to New York for a tri-meet with the Fordham Rams and the La Salle Explorers at 1 p.m.
