Richmond Welcomes La Salle For Education Day

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team returns home to host La Salle for the Education Day on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m.
ABOUT LA SALLE
The La Salle Explorers come into the matchup against Richmond with an identical 7-11 record but are 1-4 in A-10 games. La Salle recently snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 67-61 home win against St. Bonaventure on Jan. 19. Claire Jacobs leads the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game and has hit a team-best 28 three-pointers. Her sister Amy Jacobs is second on the team with 27 three-pointers and fourth in scoring at 7.3 points per game. Kayla Spruill is second in scoring at 9.6 points per game.
EDUCATION DAY AT THE ROBINS CENTER
The women's basketball game against La Salle will be played at 11 a.m. so Richmond area schools are able to attend for the Education Day at the Robins Center. Multiple schools in the Richmond school district will be on hand to cheer on the Spiders. The expected attendance should be over 1,500 local elementary school children.
HISTORY AGAINST LA SALLE
This will be the 29th all-time meeting between the two teams with Richmond holding a 21-7 overall record. The Spiders have won the last four meetings, including both games last season in 2018-19. Richmond hasn't lost to La Salle since Jan. 18, 2017 and is 14-1 against the Explorers since 2007. In the previous meeting, Richmond earned a 56-51 win at the Robins Center on Feb. 24, 2019. Jaide Hinds-Clarke finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds, recording her 10th double-double of the season. Alex Parson added 12 points. The Spiders held a 15-point halftime lead but La Salle made a comeback to get within three points. Holt hit a couple of free throws to seal the win.
1,000 POINTS CLUB - HINDS-CLARKE 52 POINTS AWAY
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke has scored 948 career points after leading the team in scoring with 19 points at VCU. Hinds-Clarke is 52 points away from hitting 1,000 career points and becoming the 25th member of the Spiders 1K club. The last Spider to score over 1,000 points was Micaela Parson in the 2017-18 season.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond fell just short to Atlantic-10 preseason favorite VCU 53-50 on Jan. 17 at the Siegel Center last week. The Spiders held a 50-49 lead with under 40 seconds left before VCU's Taya Robinson hit a floater in the lane to give the Rams a 51-50 lead. Richmond had two chances to re-take the lead but couldn't convert.
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke led all scorers with 19 points and was 8-for-11 from the field. Hinds-Clarke gave Richmond the 50-49 lead after hitting two free throws with 40 seconds left in the game. Alex Parson finished with eight points and dished out six assists. Claire Holt added nine points and was 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
Richmond finished the game shooting 41.5 percent (17-for-41) from the field and was 84.6 percent from the free throw line (11-for-13). Both teams committed 19 turnovers.
