Spiders Look To Bounce Back At Rhode Island

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team continues Atlantic 10 play on the road at Rhode Island on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. inside the Ryan Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond opened the Atlantic 10 campaign with a 67-56 road loss at Saint Joseph's on Jan. 4, 2020. The Spiders never lead all game and trailed by 13 points after three quarters.
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke scored 18 points and was 6-for-7 from the free throw line to lead all scorers. Kate Klimkiewicz added 12 points and senior Amy Duggan had nine points off the bench. The Spiders came into the game leading the A-10 in total assists and only had 11 against Saint Joseph's. Richmond also hit a season-low two three-pointers.
The Hawks shot a season-high 56.9 percent from the field (29-for-51) and outrebounded Richmond 34-22. Katie Jekot (17 points) and Katie Mayock (11 points) led the team in scoring. Saint Joseph's was very balanced with all 10 players recording a point and dished out a season-best 23 assists.
ABOUT RHODE ISLAND
The Rams are 7-6, 0-1 in the A-10 entering the game against the Spiders. Rhode Island has lost three-straight games, including its A-10 home opener against VCU, 75-54. Rhody trailed 48-25 at halftime and never recovered. A-10 Preseason all-conference honoree Nicole Jorgensen was held to four points after being in foul trouble. Davida Dale led the Rams with 13 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Jorgensen leads the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. Dale is third in scoring at 11.4 points per game and has hit 14 three-pointers.
HISTORY AGAINST RHODY
Richmond is 19-4 all-time against Rhode Island but lost in last year's A-10 home opener 66-60 on Jan. 5, 2019 at Robins Center. The Spiders held a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter but Rhody ended the game on a 24-9 run to steal the victory. Richmond is 8-2 in its last 10 meetings and have won eight in a row in Kingston, Rhode Island. The last road win came on Dec. 31, 2017, when the Spiders earned a convincing 74-53 win.
FREE THROW SHOOTING CONTINUES TO BE A STRENGTH
The Richmond Spiders shot 64 percent from the free throw line as a team in 2018-19. This season, Richmond is shooting 73.7 percent and is third in the Atlantic 10 and 53rd nationally. In the loss against Saint Joseph's, the Spiders were 16-for-22 from the free throw line (72.7) and Hinds-Clarke was 6-for-7 after going 10-for-11 in her previous game.
RICHMOND SECOND IN THE A-10 IN TOTAL ASSISTS
The Spiders have improved their ball movement from a season ago after finishing the season 319th in total assists with 312 assists in 2018-19. Fast forward to this season and Richmond already has 212 assists which is second in the Atlantic 10 and 49th nationally. Six Spiders have dished out 20 or more assists in Alex Parson (42), Kate Klimkiewicz (31), Claire Holt (28), Jaide Hinds-Clarke (24), Emma Squires (26) and Aniyah Carpenter (21).
