Spiders Renew State Rivalry Sunday At William & Mary

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will head down to Williamsburg to face William & Mary on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Kaplan Arena. The game will be streamed live on the FloSports network.
ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY
William & Mary opener their season at Old Dominion on Dec. 3 falling 70-47. Sydney Wagner lead the team in scoring with 14 points and four assists. Gabby Rogers added nine points and Bailey Eichner grabbed 14 rebounds. The Tribe was held to 3-for-21 shooting from the three-point line and sent ODU to the free throw line 32 times (25 fouls). Williams & Mary was outscored 17-5 in the fourth quarter.
HISTORY AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY
This will be the 117th meeting all-time between the two schools dating back to 1920. Richmond leads the all-time series 91-25 and won the previous meeting (76-73) on Nov. 20, 2019 at the Robins Center. Kate Klimkiewicz scored a then career-high 21 points, including two late free throws to help earn the victory. In the last road matchup, William & Mary earned a 65-55 win on Dec. 5, 2018. Jaide Hinds-Clarke had 11 points and the Tribe was led by Eva Hodgson's 15 points.
KLIMKIEWICZ CAREER NIGHT AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Junior Kate Klimkiewicz scored a career-high 25 points off 9-for-16 shooting and hit 4-for-10 from downtown to help the Spiders defeat Gardner-Webb 85-73. Klimkiewicz finished with 15 of her 25 points at halftime and grabbed nine rebounds. Klimkiewicz went 3-for-4 from the free throw line and led the team with 31 minutes played. Klimkiewicz leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game.
SPIDERS BLOCK PARTY
The Richmond women's basketball team is ranked eighth in the nation in total blocks with 19 as a team through three games played. The other teams just ahead of the Spiders are Louisville (28), South Carolina (28), Virginia Tech (27), Colorado State (24), Providence (23), St. John's (23), and Clemson (22). The nine blocks against Gardner-Webb was only three away from tying the school record of 12 set against UNCG on Dec. 8, 2012.
BUDNIK TIED FOR FIRST IN THE NATION IN BLOCKS
Freshman Addie Budnik finished with a career-high five blocks against Gardner-Webb and is tied for first in the nation in total blocks with 11 through three games. Tylar Bennett (Clemson) and Asiah Jones (Virginia Tech) also have 11 but have played four games. Budnik's 11 blocks is the most out of all the freshmen in the NCAA leading Syracuse's Kamilla Cardoso who has nine blocks. Budnik is ninth in blocks per game at 3.67 per game.
MOST POINTS SCORED IN FOUR SEASONS
The Spiders finished with 85 points scored in an 85-73 win against Gardner-Webb. It was the most points scored since a 100-point game against Savannah State on Nov. 22, 2017. Richmond scored a season-high 26 points in the first quarter to set the table. UR almost scored 20 points in every quarter but finished with just 18 in the fourth quarter.
RICHMOND EARNS BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE-DIGIT WINS
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell behind 4-0 early but went on a 9-0 run and never looked back in an 85-73 home win against Gardner-Webb on Dec. 4. The Spiders won back-to-back games by 10 points or more for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Richmond's 85 points scored is the most since a 100-point game against Savannah State in 2017.
The Spiders shot a blistering 59.6 percent from the field (34-for-57), which is the best mark in the Aaron Roussell era and highest shooting percentage since 2017. The school record was 64.3 percent set on Nov. 25, 2003 against Florida.
UR also hit 11 three-pointers in the game off 21 assists. The Spiders held Gardner-Webb to just 3-for-21 shooting from downtown. Four players finished in double-figures with junior Kate Klimkiewicz leading the way with a career-high 25 points.
