Women’s Lacrosse Opens Season with 20-6 Win Over Longwood

Farmville, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team came out firing on all cylinders Sunday, defeating Longwood 20-6 at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
Richmond (1-0) saw 11 different scorers in the contest and three different players collecting hat tricks.
Junior Nicole Concannon (Syosset, N.Y.) put the Spiders on the board first, off a sharp pass from freshman Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.). The Lancers (0-1) quickly evened the score, but the Spiders would go on to score the next 13 goals of the half.
Concannon picked up the Spiders' first hat trick of the game, all coming in the first half and two on free position opportunities. Redshirt junior Sam Geiersbach (West Babylon, N.Y.) tallied her three goals all in the first half as well and added an assist for four points
Tierney scored her first collegiate goal unassisted at 18:07 and her second goal at 12:34 in the first half before wrapping up her hat trick in the second half at 20:35. She also led UR with eight draw controls.
Senior Sophia Madsen (Snowmass Village, Colo.), freshman Sophia DiCenso (Foxboro, Mass.) and senior Julia Schmuckler (New Vernon, N.J.) each chipped in two goals for the Spiders.
Junior Mekenzie Montgomery (Hainesport, N.J.), sophomore Lauren Kingsbury (Pennington, N.J.), sophomore Marina Miller (Wexford, Pa.), sophomore Jillian Becker (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and freshman Lindsey Frank (Gansevort, N.Y.) rounded out the Richmond scoring with a goal each. Frank also tallied four draw controls, two assists and two ground balls.
All three Spider goalies saw action against the Lancers. Senior Megan Gianforte (Brielle, N.J.) picked up the win, tallying five saves, collecting a team-leading three ground balls and allowing four goals. Freshmen Emilie Bloyer (Eden Prairie, Min.) and Daniela Stelcer (Port Washington, N.Y.) both saw time late in the second half and allowed one goal each.
The Spiders are back in action at Radford Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
