UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Djimon Bailey, a 6'6" guard from Wilson, N.C., signed his National Letter of Intent on Tuesday and will join the Spiders basketball team next fall. Bailey's signing comes two weeks after he was released from his commitment to Wake Forest following the team's recent coaching change.
Bailey prepped at the Greenfield School, leading the Knights to a North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) 1A state title as a junior and earning individual All-State honors as a senior. He was also named a Wilson Times All-Area selection and the 2020 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independent Conference (CPIC) Player of the Year after averaging 17 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists per game.
Bailey originally committed to Wake Forest last May, but re-opened his recruitment after the Demon Deacons dismissed head coach Danny Manning in April. Bailey, rated as the No. 15 Class of 2020 recruit in North Carolina by ESPN.com, was also considering offers from Northeastern and Iona.
Bailey will join Isaiah Wilson, a point guard from Pittsburgh, Pa., Andre Weir, a forward from Hollywood, Fla., and Quentin Southall, a guard from Alexandria, Va., in the Spiders incoming class.
Richmond is projected to return its top seven scorers from a team that went 24-7 in 2019-20, tying the school record for wins in the regular season.
