Richmond Begins Home Stand With George Washington

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will start a four-game home stand against George Washington on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. at the Robins Center. ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington enters with a 3-6 overall record and is 0-3 in Atlantic 10 play. The Colonials are 0-5 on the road this season and fell on the road at Davidson (L, 66-62) and at Fordham (L, 53-47) in league play. Neila Luma leads the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game and in rebounding at 6.4 boards per game. Ali Brigham is second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game. Jasmine Whitney leads the team with 38 assists. GW has wins against Lincoln (PA), Old Dominion and Delaware. George Washington has struggled shooting from the three-point line at 18.1 percent (23-for-127).
HISTORY AGAINST GW
This will be the 45th meeting all-time between the two teams and GW holds a 28-16 advantage. The Spiders are 3-1 in the last four meetings, including a postseason win last season on the road on March 3. Richmond outscored GW, 19-10, in the fourth quarter to earn the win in the Atlantic 10 Championship. Kate Klimkiewicz had 15 points and was 6-for-9 from the field in the win. In the previous meeting at the Robins Center, the Spiders defeated GW, 56-48, on March 2, 2019. Claire Holt and Emma Squires each had 10 points in the victory.
ADDIE BUDNIK EARNS 2ND A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR
Freshman forward Addie Budnik earned her second A-10 Rookie of the Week honor on Jan. 11 after helping Richmond go 2-0 on the road at St. Bonaventure and at Duquesne. Budnik averaged 15.0 points per game, six rebounds per game, three blocks per game and 3.5 assists per game. Budnik shot 45.0 percent from the field and was 10-for-12 from the free throw line in two road wins. Budnik led the team with 18 points and four blocks against Duquesne.
THREE-POINT BARRAGE AGAINST DUQUESNE
Richmond hit a season-high 13 three-pointers in an 80-78 road win at Duquesne. The Spiders shot 50 percent from the three-point line (13-for-26) and opened the game making their first eight shots from the field. The Richmond record for most three-pointers made is 17 set back in Dec. 28, 1998 against UMass. Addie Budnik, Claire Holt, Kate Klimkiewicz and Siobhan Ryan all hit two three-pointers and nine of the 10 players hit a three against the Dukes.
SPIDERS SHARING THE BASKETBALL
Richmond finished with a season-high 23 assists in an 80-78 road win at Duquesne. The Spiders assisted on 23 of 27 made field goals. Freshman Grace Townsend led the team with a season-high seven assists and classmate Addie Budnik had four assists. Nine of the 10 players who played against Duquesne recorded an assist. The UR record for most assists is 33 set against Delaware State on Nov. 30, 1996.
PARSON PROVIDING SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Senior Alex Parson continues to provide senior leadership for the Spiders having started 70 games in a row. Parson has started all eight games this season and has dished out 17 assists to only 15 turnovers. Parson is a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and scored five points in the road win at Duquesne. Parson has played in 101 games, starting 80 as a Spider.
