RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team had four players finish in double-figures to help secure a 69-65 road win at VCU Sunday afternoon at the Siegel Center. The Spiders shot a season-high 54.0 percent from the field (27-for-50).
"I am really proud of our effort," head coach Aaron Roussell said. "A huge difference for us was the ability to score in the offensive end. VCU is a very good team and to win a rivalry game like this is great for our team. I am thrilled that we are able to enjoy this one."
Freshman Addie Budnik (Highland Park, Ill.) led the team with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks in 38 minutes. Freshman Grace Townsend (Midlothian, Va.) finished with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench. VCU got within three points at 65-62 but Townsend made two free throws to go back in front by five 67-62. The Rams couldn't get any closer and the Spiders finished with free throws to put the game away.
