Richmond Set For George Mason Home Game Tuesday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will look to keep the momentum going with a home game against George Mason on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. inside the Robins Center. SPIDERS SPLIT SEASON SERIES WITH ROAD WIN AT VCU
The University of Richmond women's basketball team shot a season-high 54.0 percent (27-for-50) from the field in a 69-64 road win at VCU on Jan. 24. The Spiders had four players finished in double-figures with freshman Addie Budnik and Grace Townsend each scoring 14 points apiece. Junior Kate Klimkiewicz finished with 12 points and Aniyah Carpenter added 11 points off the bench.
Richmond outrebounded VCU, 35-33, and improved to 7-4 overall with a 4-2 Atlantic 10 record. The Spiders snapped a five-game losing streak to VCU and tied the Rams in the A-10 standings with the victory.
UR used a strong third quarter by outscoring VCU, 23-11, to turn a nine-point halftime deficit to a three-point third quarter lead. Richmond held VCU to just 30.0 percent in the fourth quarter on 6-for-20 shooting. Townsend scored five of her 14 points in the fourth.

George Mason is 3-10 overall and 0-6 in Atlantic 10 play. The Patriots have lost six A-10 games in a row, including 0-4 in road A-10 matchups. In their last game, George Mason fell short at La Salle 56-49 on Jan. 24. Teodora Popovic finished with 11 points and Rachel Balzer added nine points. The Patriots did grab 57 rebounds with Jazmyn Doster pulling down 13 and Devyn Wilson grabbing 10. Marika Korpinen leads the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game and has hit a team-best 17 three-pointers. Daijah Jefferson is second in scoring at 8.3 points per game and first in rebounding at 7.4 boards per game.

This will be the 64th all-time meeting between the two teams with Richmond leads the series with a 38-25 record. In last season's meeting, UR earned a 75-70 road win at EagleBank arena on Feb. 19, 2020. Claire Holt scored a career-high 24 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Jaide Hinds-Clarke only missed one shot going 9-for-10 from the field and posted 21 points with seven rebounds. Former Patriot Nicole Cardano-Hillary finished with 23 points. In the last meeting at the Robins Center, George Mason picked up a 67-52 win on Feb. 21, 2019. The Patriots had five players in double-figures. Alex Parson scored 13 points and dished out four assists in the loss.
KLIMKIEWICZ CONTINUES STELLAR PLAY
Junior Kate Klimkiewicz leads the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game. Klimkiewicz has scored in double-figures in 10 of 11 games. Since starting 2021, Klimkiewicz has scored 12 points or more in five-straight games. She finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and was 5-for-9 from the field at VCU. Klimkiewicz leads the team with 21 three-pointers made and is second in rebounding at 7.1 boards per game.
GRACE TOWNSEND TIES CAREER HIGH AT VCU
Freshman Grace Townsend tied her career high with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists in a road win at VCU. Townsend scored five points in the fourth quarter to help secure the win against the Rams. She added 10 points and three assists off the bench against Rhode Island. Townsend tied her season high with eight rebounds against George Washington. Townsend has dished out 21 assists in her last five games (4.2 per game) to just nine turnovers. Townsend scored the eventual game-winning layup on the road against St. Bonaventure and had a season-high seven assists in the road win at Duquesne.
