Noon Tip-Off For Road Streaking Spiders At George Mason Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will be playing George Mason for the second time in a week and have moved the start time to a Noon tip-off on Sunday, Jan. 31 at EagleBank arena due to inclement weather in the forecast. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN plus.
Schedule note: the contest was originally scheduled for a 2 p.m. start has been pushed up to Noon.
RICHMOND RUNS WIN STREAK TO THREE IN ROAD WIN AT GW
The University of Richmond women's basketball team picked up their third win in a row and improved to a perfect 4-0 on the road against Atlantic 10 teams. The Spiders held GW to just 13.3 percent from the three-point line (2-for-15) in a 60-49 road win. Richmond finished with 13 steals and seven blocks to hold the Colonials under 50 points.
Freshman Addie Budnik finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Junior Claire Holt scored 11 points and was 2-for-4 from the three-point line. Junior Kate Klimkiewicz added 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. Sophomore Elaina Chapman had a career-high five steals, grabbed 11 rebounds and had seven points.
UR outscored George Washington, 19-13, in the fourth quarter. The Spiders forced GW into 21 turnovers and kept the Colonials scoreless from the three-point line (0-for-6) in the fourth quarter.

George Mason fell to 3-12 overall and 0-8 in Atlantic 10 play after a tough overtime loss against VCU, 64-56, on Jan. 29. The Patriots had a chance to win the game in regulation but freshman Taylor Jameson missed a free throw and the game was tied at 53-53. The Rams outscored George Mason, 11-3, in the extra period. Redshirt freshman Rachel Balzer scored a career-high 24 points and was 5-for-14 from the three-point line. Jameson added 12 points and Daijah Jefferson finished with 10 points. George Mason has had some close games in A-10 play falling at Davidson by four points and at La Salle by seven points. Marika Korpinen leads the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game but has missed the last two games.
HISTORY AGAINST GEORGE MASON
This will be the 65th all-time meeting between the two teams with Richmond holding a 39-25 record. The Spiders have won the last two meetings, including a 86-48 win on Jan. 26 at the Robins Center. UR held George Mason to just 29.3 percent (17-for-58) from the field. Elaina Chapman scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman Maya Ettle scored a career-high 11 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown. Claire Holt added 12 points and hit two three-pointers. In the previous meeting at EagleBank arena, the Spiders earned a 75-70 win after Holt scored a career-high 24 points and Jaide Hinds-Clarke added 21 points. Richmond held a one-point lead and made a defensive stop with three seconds left to seal the win.
PERFECT A-10 ROAD RECORD FOR THE SPIDERS
The Spiders improved to 4-0 on the road with a 60-49 win at George Washington on Jan. 29. It is the first time Richmond has started 4-0 in A-10 play since the 2010-11 season. The A-10 road streak started with two close wins at St. Bonaventure (W, 59-58) and at Duquesne (W, 80-78). The Spiders defeated VCU on the road 69-64 on Jan. 24 and remained perfect with the win at GW.
THIRD QUARTER PROVES TO BE BEST QUARTER FOR SPIDERS
Richmond is 9-1 this season when they hold a lead after three quarters and have outscored opponents 218-182 (+36) in the third in 13 games. In the road win against VCU, UR outscored VCU, 23-11, after trailing by nine at halftime. In the home win against George Mason, the Spiders outscored George Mason, 25-15, in a wire-to-wire win. Richmond has only been outscored in the third quarter three times in 13 games.
BUDNIK SITS 7TH IN THE NATION IN TOTAL BLOCKS
Freshman Addie Budnik posted a season-high six blocks at Howard and is 8th in the nation in blocks per game (3.15) with 41 in 13 games. Budnik's 41 blocks leads all freshmen in the NCAA with Stanford's Cameron Brink in 2nd with 36. Budnik is 7th in the nation with 41 total blocks. She has recorded a block in all 13 games. She had four blocks in a road win at VCU and four blocks in a home win against George Mason.
