Field Hockey Falls in Overtime at No. 19 Old Dominion

ODU got on the board late in the first quarter for the early lead, but Richmond answered with a tip-in by Alexandria Lavelle (Bryn Mawr, Pa.). For her first collegiate goal, Lavelle got her stick on a sweep by Olivia De Cain (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) after she inserted the ball to Tess Keppel (Baltimore, Md.) for the Spiders corner play in the second quarter. De Cain collected her first collegiate assist on the play.
With two minutes before halftime, ODU regained a one-goal lead.
On the Spiders only penalty corner opportunity of the third quarter, Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands) first passed to Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) before Frank quickly sent it back for Bongers' shot on goal to find the back of the cage to tie the game at 2-all.
Again, with 30 seconds before the end of the third quarter, ODU retook the lead.
In the 54th minute, Frank fired off a shot into the back of the cage to tie the game. Lavelle inserted the ball to stick-stopper Ella Hayes (Virginia Beach, Va.), setting up Frank for the shot on goal to tie the game, both collecting their first collegiate assists. The Spider defense was locked in and kept the Monarchs from scoring in the final minutes to force the game to go to into overtime.
Spider goalie Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made seven saves on 21 shots faced.
Richmond returns to Crenshaw Field to host William & Mary Friday night, October 8, at 6 p.m. on ESPN Plus.
