Swimming & Diving Completes Day One At Patriot Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program sits in sixth place after day one of the annual Patriot Invite hosted by George Mason. The Spiders posted 110.50 points in the first of three-straight days at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
Freshman Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.) was the Spiders' top finisher, placing third overall in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 23.28. Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) placed 13th overall in the event with a time of 23.93.
Senior Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) took home sixth place overall in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.56. Sophomore Alexa Connors (Kingston, Mass) turned in a time of 5:01.10 in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 10th overall in the event.
Senior Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) placed seventh in the 1-Meter Diving preliminaries in the afternoon with a score of 230.30. Yeakley finished eighth overall in the finals with a score of 212.90 Thursday evening.
The Spiders recorded points in two relays on day one. Richmond placed 13th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.47 behind the relay of Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.), Mattie Williams (Lake George, N.Y.), Rachel Pak (Fairfax, Va.) and Christina Levins (Moorestown, N.J.).
The Spiders took home 12th place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.14 behind the group of Williams, Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.), O'Shaughnessy and Medlin.
Day two of the Patriot Invite continues Friday with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., diving at 1 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
