Swimming & Diving Remains In Sixth After Day Two Of Patriot Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program remained in sixth place after day two of the annual Patriot Invite hosted by George Mason. The Spiders have 227.50 points after two days at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
The Spiders picked up points in two relays Friday. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Richmond placed sixth overall with a time of 7:41.70 from the team of Alexa Connors (Kingston, Mass) , Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.), Megan Carson (Apex, N.C.) and Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.).
The Spiders finished tied for seventh in the 200-yard medley relay event with a time of 1:46.59. The time was clocked in from Katelyn Pennell (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.), O'Shaughnessy and Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.).
Richmond had two score points in the 400-yard individual medley. Senior Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) finished in fifth place overall with a time of 4:26.39 while freshman Laura Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) was 19th with a time of 4:34.85.
Senior Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) was the lone Spider diver competing this week. She finished seventh overall Friday in the 3-meter diving, scoring 226.50 points in the prelims and adding 214.75 in the finals. Yeakley placed seventh in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving this week.
Pennell turned in a ninth place showing in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.21. Purcell turned in a time of 1:05.94 in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing 15th overall, while Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.) was 16th with a time of 1:06.55.
The Spiders' points rounded out in the 200-yard freestyle. O'Shaughnessy finished in 11th place with a time of 1:53.78 while Connors was 19th with a time of 1:54.26.
Day three of the Patriot Invite continues Saturday with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
