Swimming & Diving Closes Out Patriot Invite In Sixth

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program closed out the Patriot Invite Saturday in sixth place overall with a three-day score of 305.50 at Jim McKay Natatorium. The Spiders are off until January when they return to the pool January 14 at Villanova.
Sophomore Alexa Connors (Kingston, Mass) led the way Saturday with a third place showing in the 1650-yard freestyle, posting a time of 17:16.58. Classmate Katelyn Pennell (Eden Prairie, Minn.) added a seventh place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:03.76.
The Spiders had two post scores in the 200-yard breaststroke event. Senior Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) turned in a time of 2:21.40, placing eighth overall, while Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.) was 12th overall with a time of 2:22.20.
Junior Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) came in 12th with a time of 2:06.66 in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Lucy Yeomans (Athens, Ga.) rounded out the individual scoring events with a 16th place showing in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.38.
The Spiders added a sixth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the lone relay Saturday. The group of Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.), Yeomans, Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) and Purcell turned in a time of 3:29.33.
