Spiders Finish Road Trip With Sunday Clash At Saint Louis

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will look to split its two-game road trip when they face Saint Louis on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. eastern time. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN plus.
RICHMOND FALLS ON THE ROAD AT DAYTON – FIRST A-10 ROAD LOSS
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell on the road at Dayton, 72-54 on Feb. 12. The Spiders played their first game in February after a two-game COVID pause. Dayton held a 40-27 halftime lead and outscored UR 18-8 in the third quarter. The eight third quarter points were the lowest all season.
Rebounding proved to be a difference maker as Richmond was outrebounded 51-23 with Dayton pulling down 27 offensive rebounds leading to 28 second chance points. Dayton's Mariah Perez posted her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds (11 offensive). Freshman Addie Budnik led UR with 13 points, tied her career high with seven rebounds and had two blocks. Junior Kate Klimkiewicz scored 12 points and was 5-for-13 from the field.
The Spiders shot the ball well at 41.7 percent (20-for-48) and hit six 3's in the road loss.
ABOUT SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis is 8-3 overall and 6-3 in Atlantic 10 play having won four in a row, all in the month of February. The Billikens won three-straight road games at La Salle (W, 72-65), at Saint Joseph's (W, 63-60) and again at Saint Joseph's (W, 81-58). Saint Louis took down VCU, 66-50 on Feb. 12 after a strong fourth quarter outscoring the Rams, 32-10. Ciaja Harbison leads the team in scoring at 17.9 points per game and scored 17 points against VCU. Rachel Kent is second in scoring at 12.6 points per game and has hit a team-best 27 three-pointers. Post players Myriama Traore Smith (8.6 rebounds per game) and Brooke Flowers (9.7 rebounds per game) lead the team in rebounding.
HISTORY AGAINST SAINT LOUIS
This will be the 18th all-time meeting between the two teams with Saint Louis leading the all-time series with a 10-7 record. Saint Louis has won six games in a row in the series, including last season. Richmond fell just short 60-57 against Saint Louis at the Robins Center on Feb. 26, 2020. Former Spider Jaide Hinds-Clarke scored 20 points on her senior night. Harbison was held to 12 points off 3-for-16 shooting but Traore Smith pulled down 16 rebounds. The Billikens went 21-for-24 from the free throw line. In the last meeting on the road, the Spiders fell 58-49 in the A-10 Championship first round on March 5, 2019. UR made a late rally outscoring Saint Louis 19-10 in the fourth quarter but still fell short.
ACTING HEAD COACH – JEANINE RADICE
Assistant Coach Jeanine Radice served as acting head coach in the road game at Dayton due to head coach Aaron Roussell sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols. Radice brings 30-plus years of experience, including seven trips to the NCAA Tournament. Radice also is a member of the Fordham Rams Athletics Hall of Fame, inducted in 1995. Most recently, Radice was named to the Fordham 50th anniversary 1980s All-Decade team. Radice will serve as the acting head coach at Saint Louis.
POINT GUARD PLAY CONTINUES TO PICK UP
Senior point guard Alex Parson and freshman point guard Grace Townsend have been consistent in their play the last couple of games. Parson is averaging almost 8.0 points per game and has dished out seven assists to just four turnovers in the last three games. Townsend has been a spark off the bench with 13 assists to just four turnovers in the last three games. Townsend had seven assists to zero turnovers in a road win at George Mason.
BUDNIK SITS 7TH IN THE NATION IN BLOCKS PER GAME
Freshman Addie Budnik posted a season-high six blocks at Howard and is 7th in the nation in blocks per game (3.20) with 48 in 15 games. Budnik's 48 blocks is third among all freshmen in the nation. Budnik is 10th in the nation with 48 total blocks. She has recorded a block in all 15 games. She had four blocks in a road win at VCU and four blocks in a home win against George Mason. She posted an A-10 high five blocks on the road at Mason.
