03/31/2021 | Women's Golf
RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond freshman Rory Weinfurther has been named the Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. Weinfurther finished second among the 67 golfers competing at this week's Kingsmill Spring Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., shooting rounds of 76, 77, and 73 to finish at a 10-over par 226. This is the third Patriot League Golfer of the Week captured by the Spiders this month. Junior Naomi Mitchell was honored on March 10 and March 24.Â
Weinfurther's second-place finish was the best by a Spider in an event with 40 or more competitors since September 2017, when Elsa Diaz won the Boston College Intercollegiate. Richmond's second-place team finish was the best for the Spiders since they tied with Appalachian State for the team title at the six-team Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate in March 2019 and their best result in an event with more than six teams since finishing second at the Kingsmill Fall Intercollegiate in September 2018.
