Spider Hockey Sweeps Season Series Against Saint Louis, 5-1

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Richmond field hockey team collected a dominant 5-1 win over Saint Louis Saturday at SportPort International.
Richmond moves to 3-2 on the season and in Atlantic 10 action while Saint Louis falls to 3-9 on the season and 0-6 in league play.
The Spiders jumped out to a two-goal lead after the first quarter, with both goals coming from Madi Hyatt (Fredericksburg, Va.) off of passes by Regan McCrossan (Waxhaw, N.C.).
Olivia Frazier (Cary, N.C.) tallied the Spiders third goal of the game and her fourth goal of the season at the 36:57 mark in the third quarter. SLU answered with a quick goal of their own to break up the shutout.
Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands) closed the third quarter with her fourth goal of the season off a pass from Frazier.
Freshman Cori Nichols (Powhatan, Va.) tallied her second goal of the season at the 52:43 mark of the fourth quarter, assisted by Frazier, to push the Spiders lead to four goals.
Richmond out shot Saint Louis 23-4 and tallied a 17-1 shot on goal advantage. Richmond also held the advantage in penalty corners 15-3.
The Spiders split goalkeeping duties between Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) and Frankie-Lynne Conklin (Greenvale, N.Y.). Latta allowed SLU's only goal, but neither registered a save in the contests.
The Spiders will wrap up the 2021 spring season Sunday, April 18 when they host the Wildcats of Davidson at Crenshaw Field. The Senior Day game will start at 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
