No. 13 Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up 16-7 Victory at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – The No. 13 University of Richmond women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to seven games and stayed undefeated in Atlantic 10 action Sunday, with a 16-7 victory over George Mason at GMU Stadium.
Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y) paced the Richmond (8-1, 4-0) offense with four goals for her eighth multi-goal game of the season. Frank also leads the squad with 26 goals and 37 points in nine games this year.
After the two squads traded goals twice, the Spiders put together a three-score run to take a 5-2 lead. Rachel Ziemba (Cazenovia, N.Y.) scored assisted by Marina Miller (Wexford, Pa.), while Sam Geiersbach (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Nicole Concannon (Syosset, N.Y.) both tallied unassisted goals.
Mason picked up a goal to get within two at 5-3 at the half, but Richmond come out of the break on fire, scoring six straight to go up 11-3 with 10 minutes left in the game. Sophia DiCenso (Foxboro, Mass.) tallied an unassisted goal, while Kendall Duffy (Sinking Spring, Pa.) scored off a pass from Geiersbach.
Geierbach and Frank then tallied goals off passes from Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.), before the duo picked up unassisted goals. Geiersbach tallied her third straight multi-goal game of the year and her fourth-straight game with at least one assist. Tierney dished out a season-high four assists and picked up two draw controls.
Madison Ostrick (Medford, N.Y) got in on the scoring at the 16:54 mark, scoring off a pass from Frank, while Ziemba teamed up with Tierney just forty seconds later to push the score to 13-4.
Goals by Mason bookended Tierney's first goal of the day, which came off a Ziemba pass at the 15:15 mark. Ziemba would then go on to assist goals by Reagan Williams (Greenland, N.H.) and Mekenzie Montgomery (Hainesport, N.J.). Williams, after battling injuries, tallied her first goal since the 2019 season.
All four of the Spiders goalkeepers saw action. Led by starter Megan Gianforte (Brielle, N.J.), Nicole Burney (Yardley, Pa.), Emilie Bloyer (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Daniela Stelcer (Port Washington, N.Y.) only allowed seven goals while picking up nine saves.
The Spider defense held Mason to only 13 of their 22 shots on frame. Jax Donohue (Amherst, N.H.) paced the team with four draw controls and picked up three ground balls. Freshman Sarah Roycroft (Westwood, Mass.) led the team with a career-high three caused turnovers.
Richmond also held the advantage in shots (44-22), shots on goal (33-13), ground balls (21-17) and draw controls (18-7). The Spiders also had 11 of 16 goals with assists.
The Spiders return to Robins Stadium Friday April 23, when they welcome in the Wildcats of Davidson on Senior Day.
