Spider Hockey Falls to Miami (OH)

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team was unable to score against Miami University (Ohio) on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field. The RedHawks (2-5) came away with a 3-0 win over the Spiders (0-5).
Junior Regan McCrossan (Wexhaw, NC) paced the Spiders with three of her four shots on goal, while fellow junior Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y.) fired off two shots on frame.
Miami got on the board first with two minutes left in the first quarter for the early lead.
The Spiders controlled the ball on their attacking third for most of the second quarter, firing off four shots with two on goal and collecting four penalty corners.
Both squads battled for the advantage in the third quarter. Miami was the first to score in the second half, first at the 41st minute and before adding a third goal in the 44th minute.
Richmond fired off three more shots in the fourth quarter at the Miami goalkeeper swatted the each away.
Junior goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made a career-high 10 saves on 17 shots faced. She beat her previous career-best eight saves against Saint Louis on March 26.
Richmond heads on the road to open Atlantic 10 Conference action against Saint Louis, Friday, September 17 with first pass at 4 p.m. at Sportport International.
