Baseball Set to Face Vanderbilt in October Scrimmage
09/14/2021 | Baseball
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team is set to scrimmage perennial national title contender Vanderbilt at USA Baseball's National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. October 16th. This event will be the first time the Spiders will be taking on an opposing school during the fall seasons since the introduction of inter-school scrimmages in the fall of 2018.
"We're extremely excited to take on Vanderbilt this fall." Head coach Tracy Woodson said, "Coach Corbin and his staff run a top-notch program and we're excited to collaborate with them. This is a tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes to matchup with a national power. The scrimmage will be a good measuring stick to see how we stack up, what we need to work on and how we can continue to grow our program at a national level. This will definitely be an experience that our student-athletes will look back positively on, and could provide a jumping off point for us leading into the spring season."
This will be the first matchup between the Spiders and Commodores in school history as the two have never met in the NCAA spring season. This does not count as an official game, but will provide the programs with a game-like experience outside of regular season NCAA competition.
The scrimmage is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the National Training Complex. Information about attending this scrimmage will be released at a later date.
Also on the docket for the Spiders fall season, Richmond will take on Paul D. Camp Community College on October 30th at Pitt Field.
