Spider Field Hockey Falls to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell 1-0 on a late fourth quarter goal to BigTen foe Indiana University Sunday at the IU Field Hockey Complex. The Spiders fall to 1-6 on the year while the Hoosiers move to 5-3 on the season.
Richmond dominated possession in the first quarter, collecting three penalty corners and taking four shots with two on goal from senior Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands). The Spiders got one more shot off in the second quarter, but the Hoosier defense halted the Richmond offensive plan in the second half.
Sophomores Olivia De Cain (Bryn Mawr, Penn.) and Ella Hayes (Virginia Beach, Va.), as well as senior Addie Nash (Midlothian, Va.) each fired off a shot against Indiana.
Spider goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) collected seven saves, with six in the fourth quarter, on 22 shots faced.
Indiana was awarded 14 of their 17 penalty corners in the second half. The Hoosiers also took 19 of their 22 shots in the last 30 minutes of the game.
Richmond returns to action against Atlantic 10 foe LaSalle Friday at Crenshaw Field. The 6 p.m. contest can also be streamed on ESPN Plus.
