CLEVELAND -- Former Richmond basketball player Dan Geriot has been named the new head coach of the Cleveland Charge, the G-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Geriot has served as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers since the 2019-20 season. Prior to his role as assistant coach, Geriot spent several years as a video coordinator and player development coordinator for the Cavaliers, including during the team's 2015-16 NBA championship season.Â
Â
"This is a very exciting day for the Cleveland Charge, and I'm looking forward to having someone of Dan's experience and innovative approach step in as head coach of this team," said Charge General Manager Brendon Yu in a team press release. "During his tenure with the Cavaliers, Dan displayed a unique ability to build strong relationships with players and assisted with their overall development both on and off the court. I'm confident that he will be able to bring that same passion and commitment to the Charge."Â
Â
Before reaching the NBA, the former Spider spent time with Campbell University as an assistant coach from 2013-15 and was on the staff at Princeton University as an assistant coach from 2011-13.
Â
The Springfield, Pa. native played for the Spiders from 2006 to 2011, leading Richmond to the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2011, when the Spiders reached the Sweet 16.
Geriot was selected to the 2007 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, and in 2008 he was named All-Atlantic 10. He ranks 23rd all-time in scoring at Richmond with 1,389 points.Â
