GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior Emily Ward registered the lowest tournament score of her career at this week's Bryan National, finishing at 224 (+8) to lead all Spiders in the 54-hole event. Ward shot 75 (+3) in Tuesday's final round and finished the event tied for 26th among 66 golfers on the individual leaderboard. Ward was one of the three Spiders to finish in the top 40 as Richmond recorded a team score of 904 (+40) and placed 10th among 11 teams in the field.Â
Ward's 224 was one shot better than her total at the 2019 Kingsmill Invitational, when she shot 78-75-72/225 (+9). She made both of her birdies Tuesday on consecutive holes, birdieing the par-3 4th and the par-4 5th.
Ward's fellow senior Naomi Mitchell was one of two Spiders to finish at 228 (+12) along with junior Vicky Zhu, tying for 38th place. Mitchell's nine birdies at the event were three more than any other Spider, while Zhu played the par 3s in 3-under par, tied for best in the field.Â
Freshman Lauren Jones finished one shot behind Mitchell and Zhu at 229 (+13) after shooting 76 (+4) Tuesday. She tied for 43rd place. Sophomore Rory Weinfurther rebounded after shooting 81 (+9) Monday to card a 1-over 73 Tuesday, best among all Spiders. She finished the event tied for 46th at 231 (+15).Â
Freshman Christine Mandile competed as an individual in her first collegiate event. She finished in 63rd place at 243 (+27).Â
Richmond returns to the course this weekend at the Navy Fall Invitational. The event will be held at the Naval Academy Golf Club, site of the 2022 Patriot League Championship in April.Â
